Welcome to this edition of the Night Skye News, the occasional newsletter of Lance Keimig Photographics, and the Night Skye Website. I'm happy to announce several new workshops and photo tours, as well as the second installation of Darkness Darkness.


Upcoming Workshops

Night Photography at NESOP, an 8 week course that begins Monday, June 23.
Starting with the summer session, NESOP will finally accepting credit cards for it's evening workshop program. There's just enough time to squeeze in an 8 session Night Photography class in between my Scotland and Mono Lake programs.



Boston Harbor Islands

Lovell's Island Night Photography Camp Out, July 18

Spend the night On Lovell's Island in Boston Harbor photographing by the light of the July Full Moon. This unique offering is intended primarily for workshop and photo tour alumni, but is open to anyone with Night Photography experience who would like to spend the night photographing and communing with other Night Photographers. Take the ferry from Long Wharf in Boston on Friday afternoon, camp out, or stay up all night photographing on Lovell's Island, and return Saturday morning or afternoon. Limited to 20 people on a first come first serve basis. $75 plus ferry ticket, or come on your own boat. There will be a follow up evening at my studio to share images from this night out. Supplement the NESOP class with this full moon adventure, or sign up for just the island overnight.

Finding Your Way in the Dark: Digital Night Photography from Capture to Print at Mono Lake, Yosemite, and Bodie Ghost Town, August 14-17, 2008

Lance Keimig and Scott Martin co-teach an informative 4 day and night workshop in the Eastern Sierra. This workshop is specifically for digital photographers who want to learn or improve Night Photography techniques, from exposure to image processing and printmaking. Participants will leave this workshop with the knowledge they need to photograph at night by natural and artificial light, and how to process their files and prepare them for printing. Night Photography locations include Mono Lake, Tioga Pass, Bodie Ghost Town, Travertine Hot Springs, or the Burnt Jeffrey Pine Forest. Register online today.

Finding Your Way in the Dark: Digital Night Photography from Capture to Print at Big Bend National Park and Terlingua Ghost Town. October 11-14, 2008

Lance Keimig and Scott Martin team up again to teach the same workshop, this time in Big Bend National Park in West Texas. For the second year in a row, this workshop is sponsored by the Texas Photo Society. Locations include the Chisos Mountains, Santa Elena Canyon, and Terlingua Ghost Town. Please join us for this informative and fun workshop by registering through TPS.


Darkness Darkness V2.0

Darkness Darkness, the Night Photography exhibit recently presented at Harvard University's Three Columns Gallery will be installed at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center From May 28 to August 31, 2008.

Several artists have been added to the exhibit for this installation, Michael Kenna, Jan Staller, Vicki DaSilva, Noel Kerns, and Sarah Sorg. In addition, a small selection of student works will also be shown alongside the main exhibit. There will be an openning reception on June 20 from 6-9 pm with live music, hors d'ouvres, and a cash bar. Please RSVP by June 16. In addition to the opening reception, the exhibit will be open to the public on a limited basis; Thursdays, from 5 - 9pm, July 10, July 24, July 31, August 7, August 21, August 28.

Guided tours with the curator (me) are offered on July 10 and August 7 at 6:30 pm, free. RSVP by July 5 for the first date, or by August 1 for the second date. More information will be posted shortly on the exhibit website, www.darknessdarkness.com.


One final note, I'm sad to say that The Pepper Gallery in Boston will be closing at the end of May. I will continue to be represented by Audrey Pepper, who will be working as a private art dealer. Perhaps this will motivate me to finally find representation in New York!
