Super Tuesday Blues

I thought about going to the Obama rally in Boston Monday night, but didn't have the time or energy. I had also just read Paul Krugman's comparison of Barak's and Hillary's health care plans, which was pretty critical of Obama. Reports in the Daily Kos yesterday have largely refuted Krugman's concerns, but it made my allegiance waver for a moment, although I did vote for him in the end. I really wanted to vote for Kucinich, but I also wanted my vote to count. I've taken several of the online vote by issue tests, and I agree with Kucinich about 90% of the time, Obama 55%, and Hillary 50%. It's hard to get excited about a candidate that only shares 50-55% of my values.

Obama certainly is inspiring tho, and that does count for something. Wish he had the gonads to stand up for gay marriage tho. I realize it is a political death sentence, but how can we criticize Romney for his blatant pandering, and then accept our own candidate's downplaying (or denying) their progressive positions? Perhaps he really is against gay marriage rights, but I hope not. It is an important issue for me because I see it as a harbinger of a person's stance on human rights in general. I believe that we cannot accept any discrimination in any form.

I hear ya'. I stood staring at the ballot unable choose between Obama or Clinton, not being overly comfortable or sure about either. In the end I voted for Kucinich, always having liked him, and he would have been the one I wish I could have voted for. Sure, I guess I threw away my vote. But honestly could not bring myself to do otherwise...

I am a strong Obama supporter - his was the first political campaign I have ever donated money to - but I agree that it's disheartening to see him not stridently putting forward more progressive views. However, one has to look at it from a political standpoint - his progressiveness is the one thing that could really rally republicans in the general election. Downplaying it is prudent, if not particularly inspiring.
